Bomb Threat
A bomb threat is any threat made to detonate an explosive or combustible device. All threats should be taken seriously and reported.
Bomb threats come in various forms including but are not limited to:
- Mail/Packages
- Bags
- Phone Calls or Emails
Prepare Now
Bomb threat incidents can happen anywhere and anytime. Preparing now can help you act quickly. Take the following recommended steps:
- Sign up to receive Everbridge Alerts. This emergency notification system will notify you of a serious threat or emergency on or near BYUH campus.
- Identify at least two nearby exits whenever you enter a building. Get in the habit of doing this.
- If you see suspicious activity or receive any threats, report it as soon as possible to:
- Police 911

- Supervisor or Faculty member
- Report a concern
Reporting a Bomb Threat
Bomb Threat Checklist
If you receive a bomb threat, note down the following:
- Why are you calling?
- What is your name?
- Address?
- Where is the Bomb?
- When will it go off?
- How much time is left?
- What kind of bomb is it? (Description)
- What does the bomb look like?
- Why is the building being bombed?
- How do you know about the bomb?

Bomb Confirmation
After receiving a message that a bomb had been planted, the follow procedures apply:
- Record called ID number.
- Immediately cease the use of ALL two way radio and cellular phones.
- Call 911 for law enforcement and notify security.
- Make visual checks of your surroundings.
- Report suspicious object(s) to security.
If Suspicious Device(s) are Found
- Do not touch or move the device(s).
- Call 911 for law enforcement and notify Security.
- Evacuate the area and notify Security or police personnel to secure the area, preserve the scene, and be aware of other bombs.
Evacuation Procedures
- Leave doors and windows open.
- DO NOT use cellphones, radios, or any other transmitting device.
- Take personal effects that can be hand carried such as identification documents, ID's, money and/or medication.
- Evacuate the immediate area.
- DO NOT re-enter the building or area until declared safe by Security, Fire, or Police personnel.
- Comply with the instructions of local law enforcement.
If a Bomb is Detonated
- Respond to injured person(s) or notify Security and Police personnel.
- Evacuate and secure the area, preserve the scene, and be aware of additional bombs.
- Call 911 for law enforcement and notify Security.
- Stay calm and try to calm evacuated and/or injured persons.
NOTE: Evacuation site must be a minimum of 300 feet away from any building.
Security and University Employees Procedures
Non-University Security Employees
Write out the caller's message in its entirety as accurately as possible; then contact Campus Security.
University Security Employees
Write out the message in its entirety and contact the supervisor on duty and the director of Security.
All University Employees
Talk to no one concerning the incident other than your supervisor and Campus Security.

Situational Awareness
- Stay Calm.
- Follow the directions of any staff, security, or campus alerts/emails.
- Pay attention to any emails or emergency alerts from Everbridge.
Pay attention to your surroundings and be alert to anything suspicious such as:
- Odd behavior/activity.
- Items, bags, or packages out of the ordinary.
Important: If you see or receive anything suspicious, report it as soon as possible to 911 for Law Enforcement and Security (808) 675-3911.
