Hazardous Materials

There are various types of hazardous waste materials that individuals need to be aware of to properly handle and dispose.

Chemical Waste

Chemical materials such as lab chemicals, cleaning agents, paints, pesticides, industrial solvents, acids, and mercury.

Uncontrolled release of chemical materials, such as chemical spills, present a risk to human health and the environment. Take these steps if a chemical spill occurs.

  1. Alert individuals around you to distance themselves from the spill immediately.
  2. Use a spill kit to limit the spread of any chemical spill.
  3. Set up a barrier using traffic cones or yellow tape to limit access.
  4. Notify your supervisor and contact BYUH Safety and Risk Management at:
    1. Office: (808) 675-3281
    2. Safety and Risk Manager: (808) 780-8875
    3. After hours, BYUH Security: (808) 675-3503
